-
the
fastest growing chronic lifestyle disease
in Australia
Did
you know that Diabetes is the fastest growing
chronic lifestyle disease in Australia?
Currently 520,000 Australians are diagnosed
with diabetes and there is a total of 1,040,000
people unaware they have the disease. Over
55,000 people are diagonised every year,
meaning 1,048 people a week and 150 people
per day are diagonsed with diabetes, and
majority of these cases are due to lifestyle.
Diabetes is a chronic disease characterised
by high blood glucose levels resulting from
the body not producing insulin or not using
it properly. Insulin is a hormone needed
for glucose to enter the cells and be converted
to energy.
There are two main types of diabetes:
Type I - insulin dependant
and represents 10-15% of all cases; this
is not caused by lifestyle factors.
Type II - non-insultin
dependent, it represents 85-90% of all cases.
The causes are genetic predisposition and
lifestyle factors contribute to the developement.
High risk factors for developing Type II
diabeses include being overweight, high
blood pressure & heart disease. With
Diabetes there are many complications which
people who have the disease must look after
themselves to prevent eye disease, kidney
disease, heart disease and stroke.
At present there is no cure for neither
Type I or Type II diabetes. Research for
a cure and prevention strategies for the
disease continues.
Cambridge Diet Pty Ltd would like to help
with the prevention of people developing
Type II diabetes by helping those who are
overweight lose those extra kilos, therefore
reducing their BMI and taking them out of
a high risk catagory of further developing
the disease.
Cambridge Diet Pty Ltd is helping Diabetes
Australia with funding towards their research,
development and education that is being
conducted to help all Australians who have
diabetes. To help support Diabetes Australia,
Cambridge Diet Pty Ltd is donating $1 from
every box of SoyaSlim to Diabetes Australia.
You
too can help this worthy cause and in doing
so reduce your risk of becoming a statistic.
