Don’t hesitate…make that first call to become the new slim you that you always wanted to be!...

At 26 I had a life changing experience that prompted me to do something about being a 102kg, size 22 blob! After six months on a meal replacement programme I was down to 59kg, feeling better than I ever had and totally determined NEVER to be overweight again.

I was successful in keeping this vow for over two years. Then I guess I got complacent and lazy!

Last August, still not overweight, but having crept up to 67kg I set off on my adventure around the world! With my backpack filled with size 12 clothes I flew off to Hong Kong and then Australia.

After three and a half months of non stop partying and eating a frightening amount of fast food I returned home for Christmas now tipping the scales at 74kg and unable to fit into anything I owned!

Come January, I was back off to Oz (complete with a mixture of size 14/16 clothes), convinced that as I would now be travelling up the east coast in a camper van, I’d be more active and would make the effort to cook myself healthy meals! How wrong could I have been?

By the end of March, having had the most amazing time, but also having eaten and drank more than ever, I reached Cairns with only one pair of shorts and one pair of jeans that I could squeeze into. I had no idea how much I weighed but was unhappy and determined I was NOT going to buy any size 18s!!!

A few weeks earlier, my older sister had emailed from the UK to tell me that she was doing amazingly on the Cambridge diet and couldn’t wait until our big family holiday to Spain in September 2008. Although I was happy for her, the thought of being the only ‘fatty’ laying by the pool like a beached whale filled me with dread.

I did some research on the internet and found out that Cambridge had arrived down under. Still convinced it would be impossible to follow the diet whist travelling I sent a desperate email to see if I would be able to receive shakes through the post and keep in touch with a counsellor via email and phone. To my absolute joy I got a call the very next day to help me sort this out!

A week later, on 2nd April, I was in Melbourne meeting my counsellor Mandy Smith and having the dreaded first weigh in - 86.4kg and a 40” (1m) waist!!! Well, at least I was doing something about it.

I started the diet on 5th April, and in the last 11 weeks have dropped just over 20kg and am wearing a size 10/12! In that time I’ve travelled to Canberra, Sydney, all over the south island of New Zealand and settled for a while in Auckland where I’m currently living in very sociable flat share and holding down two jobs!

I’m set to fly home mid August (via Singapore and Bangkok to purchase a new wardrobe!) and by then am sure I will have reached my goal of 60kg. I am so excited at the prospect of shocking my family and friends (who last saw me at around 78kg after Christmas) with the new slim me. Only my older sister and best friend know I’ve been on the diet and they’ve been sworn to secrecy!

I haven’t been a saint, having had a few days off for special events and occasions… including my 30th birthday. However, I also haven’t felt that being on the diet has been a hardship or spoilt my travelling experience.

If I can be this successful whilst living in a range of camper vans, hostels and flats with constantly changing locations, friends and circumstances, then anyone who genuinely WANTS to succeed on the diet can. Don’t hesitate…make that first call to become the new slim you that you always wanted to be!
